How to tell whether you have an iPad or an Android tablet
This page explains how to tell if you have an Apple iPad or Android tablet.
If you have a smartphone you can see our page on identifying iPhones, Android and Doro smartphones here.
There are separate books for Apple's iPad and for tablets that are based on Google's Android system. That way, you get a book for the actual system that your tablet uses.
The only snag is, you need to know what you have! But fear not, this should help you tell...
Tell-tale clues to look out for to check if you have an iPad or Android tablet.

Android Tablets
Some of the makes that use Android include:
- Amazon Kindle Fire or just Amazon Fire
- Samsung Galaxy Tab or Samsung Tab or Samsung Galaxy Note
- Sony Xperia
- Lenovo Yoga (but this just possibly could be based on Windows - see the bit at the end of this page to check it isn't)
- Archos
- LG Gpad
- Nvidia Shield
- Acer Iconia
- Asus Transformer Pad or Memo Pad
- Kobo Arc
- Advent Vega Tegra
In general, the simplest way to tell is simply to work out if it's an iPad - that's easy because they say iPad on the back (you might need to take it out of the case if it's in one). If it isn't an iPad, then it probably uses Android.
