Desktop Publishing One Step at a Time
Desktop Publishing doesn't need to be hard. Once you've been told exactly what you need to do, it becomes so much easier. And that's what I've done in this easy-to-follow book Desktop Publishing One Step at a Time…
Everyone talks about making cards, but what about all the other things you can do?
Which of these do you already know how to do on your PC?
- Newsletters for a club or society
- Photo albums
- A letter on personalised writing paper
- A collage of photos
- Posters
- Fancy menus for a special meal
- Invitations to a party or wedding
- Calendars
- Books or booklets - ever fancied writing your life story?
- Business cards or visiting cards
- Banners
- Flyers for club events
- Notelets for keeping in touch with someone you never have the time to write a full letter to
Oh, and of course you can make Christmas cards, Birthday cards, Easter cards or any other kind of cards, too - complete with your own photos.

How to avoid it being expensive…
The one catch normally is that Desktop Publishing programs are quite pricy. It costs £159.99 for Microsoft Publisher at PCWorld. But I'll include a free gift with your copy of the book: a copy of a full Desktop Publishing program (Serif PagePlus 8) on a CDROM. So you've got everything you need.
(The book also covers Microsoft Publisher, so if you already have that, don't worry)
Explained in simple, plain language
This book explains everything in simple, plain language, without confusing jargon. It clearly shows you what to do, with plenty of full colour pictures of the screen so you can see exactly where to point the mouse and click.
Just a few of the surprising things you'll find out in this full colour, 80 page book:
- The big difference between a desktop publishing (DTP) program and a word processor… once you know this it makes it all so much clearer. Page 4
- The 7 most important "tools" - believe it or not you can make books, cards, posters and so on using only these 7 features from the program. Page 12
- The easy way to make simple, plain text really stand out and look good (hint: it's not adding colour or changing the font) Page 32
- The one thing to watch out for when using spellcheck… when it will still leave you with a mistake. Page 38
- You might already use copy and paste… here's something that's even better (I don't know why they don't make this obvious, but it's a bit of a secret). Page 47
- 3 tips for making your cards (or whatever you're making) look better. Plus one tip so they're easier to make. Pages 63-64
- What to do before you print anything, to avoid it all coming out as a mess. (It's a simple step, but makes such a difference) Page 65
